My reflection

Person centred practice in relation for MND to me is about getting to know them, and looking at all aspects of the person- the spiritual, social, what roles they may have, their core beliefs and expectations. I have come across people who wish to retain their role as caregiver and Dad and it is important to allow that wherever possible by providing care with dignity and enabling independence where possible. It is important to consider the wider community they belong to, for example family expectations, culture etc.- people don't exist in a vacuum. When it comes to the MDT it is so important to communicate people's goal beliefs, goals and wishes to everyone involved in their care to ensure that the patient is in control of their care where possible.
