Thinking ahead: Principle 2 Having an impact

Principle 2: Art for Action allows young people's artivism to have an impact at a local level on actions to respond to climate change.

The artefacts created in the workshops will be an expression of the participants’ ‘calls for action’ to their local communities. This could include parents, peers, local councillors or policy makers, local businesses or industries. Therefore, these artefacts would be most powerfully exhibited at a venue where you think these calls can be responded to. This could be a policy making venue such as a town hall or council buildings, or an industrial setting linked to the topics being covered in the event, or a community space.

Those who attend the exhibitions will be asked to respond to the artworks (see principle 7) as part of the dialogue created between the makers and their communities and beyond.

Reflection: What are your thoughts on an exhibition venue/venues and who to contact for access?

  • What spaces are likely to draw attention and responses to the art created by the young people?
  • Who is likely to be in that space?
  • What permissions / contacts are needed to agree to the exhibition?
  • Does the space allow parents / carers to access the exhibition as well or is there a need for a different exhibition for them?

On the next page you will consider Art for Action principle 3 and implications for your planning.
