The role of the Arts: Principle 3 Artistic expression
Principle 3: Art for Action allows young people to express themselves through a wide range of artistic modes
When we think of the arts, there are a wider range of opportunities for expression eg. mark making, sculpture, collage, digital visual art, drama, poetry, music, video, podcast and game design, and many other hybrid options. Any artistic mode, or combination, can allow young people the creative freedom and opportunity to express their opinions to others.
Reflection: Which artistic approach(es) do you think might best suit your participants?
- How far will you collaborate with the young people to decide what artistic modes they want to use? How will this collaboration happen and at what point in the process (taking into account the planning that might be needed after decisions have been made)?
- What resources would be needed for the artistic approaches you / the young people are thinking of?
- Are there any implications for the space(s) needed for the young people to engage with these artistic modes?
- Would any support / training be needed for the event leaders in these modes?
- Are there any specific implications for exhibiting the artistic modes you / the children are considering?
