Overview
Welcome to the SKPT Energy module. This is the third part of a course that aims to support teachers to develop their subject knowledge and pedagogical approaches for teaching physics. This module will focus on teaching Energy and Power at Key Stages 3 and 4 and is ideal for non-specialist teachers of physics.
This module will consist of five topics of online learning, alongside some taught elements. There will be three half-day face-to-face sessions and one online tutorials for the live element of the course. We encourage you to make use of the forums and share questions or experiences.
SKPT Energy is provided by the Institute of Physics (IOP) in partnership with The Open University.
The IOP is a UK-based learned society and professional body that works to advance physics education, research and application. It was founded in 1874 and has a worldwide membership of over 20,000. The IOP is the Physical Society for the UK and Ireland and supports physics in education, research and industry.
The full length of online study is around 10 hours. However, given that teachers are so busy, it may be that you do not complete every part of this module. If that is the case, please ensure that you complete all the tasks agreed with the course tutor.
To be marked as having completed the course you should ensure that you engage with participant tasks relating to each of the following areas:
- Mathematical problem solving
- Conceptual challenges
- Practical work
- Pedagogical reflections
