Some students are lucky enough to come to school with a good background knowledge of science, an awareness of the impact that it has on their daily lives and they will be aware of the possibility that they could choose one of the many careers that includes science in some form. Many, however, do not. These ideas and others are encompassed in the term Science Capital, and a lot of research has gone into what role teachers (and parents/other role models) have in improving the Science Capital of students.
