1.3 – Are some stores missing?

View

Allow about 10 mins

Many teachers are surprised when they are studying about energy stores, because they have previously taught (or were taught) that there are 8 different energy types. If this is you, you may be asking what has happened to electricity, sound and light? If this is not you, please feel free to skip ahead!

Task - some key questions

Task – consider the following three questions before watching the video. You can discuss your answers with a colleague or family member, or you can write the answer in your blog:

  • Where does a kettle get its energy from?
  • You have a hand-held torch. Where does its energy go?
  • Imagine a pen… why does it fall?

In this video, Alan explains very briefly some of the reasons why we now teach using the language of energy stores instead of energy types - giving a consistent approach and helping students to avoid some key misconceptions.
