Acknowledgements
This course, first published in January 2022, was written by Alan Denton for the Institute of Physics (IOP), with much help from Nicky Thomas, Devinder Gill, Jessica Hamer and Rachel Hartley.
James de Winter has provided invaluable guidance on this course, and for many prior iterations of subject knowledge courses.
Many people working for and with the IOP have directly and indirectly contributed to this course. Ally Davies led the IOP response as the nationwide education support they offer went online in response to Covid, and he was supported by a large team. In this course we have linked to the excellent IOP Domains videos; with energy topics beautifully explained by Alessio Bernardelli, David Richardson, Jess Hamer, Joanna Kent and Trevor Plant. There are countless other teachers from the IOP and in schools who have shared their teaching ideas and best practice, which have ended up in some form within this course.
Alice Dunford and Jackie Flaherty from The Ogden Trust gave a lot of advice on their experiences of developing a blended CPD experience, and from getting the best from the Open Create e-Learning system.
Many organisations and charities around the world work hard to help make teaching an easier job. Diagnostic questions used come from Best Evidence Science Teaching (BEST).
Finally, many thanks to the following sources for their permission to use material in the course:
- Photos of components. Breckland Scientific.
- Diagrams are by Alan Denton used with permission.
- Other photos are from the public domain, except where stated.
We have tried hard to make sure everything used has permission. If anything has been overlooked please get in touch and we will rectify it as soon as possible.
