My Reflection

I have now read the recommended learning material - NICE guidelines NG42, and more specifically the section on 'organisation of care'.

I first read this document earlier in the year, in preparation for my new role, as i wanted to learn more about what my role would entail, and the expectations of my role as i started. This enabled me to have a great understanding of why the MND is so important, and how it should look and be delivered.

However, i have now been in post for 9 months, and i am now able to read this document in more depth, and link how this really applies in practice. I have now become more embedded within the MND team, so now i am thinking how i can improve how we work together to ensure that these recommendations are met.

The last 9 months i have been focusing on learning all the members of the MND, what their roles involve, how often they see patients, how many community visits they do. I am now going to start to focus on how my role as a research nurse can fit within this team, and how i can link my role to theirs in order to all work effectively together.

I have recently created an MND research newsletter, which i plan to send to the team on a monthly basis - to ensure that all the members of the team have an awareness of what MND research i am delivering. I feel this relates to the NICE recommendation 'ensure effective communication and coordination between all healthcare professionals and social care practitioners involved in the person's care and their family members and/or carers (as appropriate)'.
