Reflection

As a community-based occupational therapist working with individuals experiencing MND, I have been lucky to work with a range of other health professionals and to utilise multidisciplinary teams to work towards the individuals goals and to ensure their ongoing safety to live in the community. The MDT is essential to ensure the person receives adequate care to address current symptoms and to plan for potential future symptoms to manage their disease progression and quality of life.

As MND is such a complex and continuously changing condition, it can be a challenge to come together as a MDT to adapt care in a timely manner or as needs arise. I found it worked best to meet face-to-face with the person with MND and the MDT to discuss goals and ongoing care, however this wasn't always possible and emailed communications were required for persons who could not attend.
