My reflection

I am a neurological occupational therapist, working in out patients and neurosplinting.

Along many others, I work with:

1.        Neuro physiotherapists

2.        Specialist MND occupational therapist.

3.        MND nurses

4.        Wheelchair services

To work effectively with the wider MDT I would need to know their referral criteria and wait times. When working with MND patients it is time critical. The MND OT is often the one stop shop, and information given to her is disseminated. I would need to know their working days, as unfortunately many services are run part time, and what the alternative contact would be for those days they do not work- in cases of urgent need.

In return, they would require information on the splinting we have tried, and how successful It has been. Some splints are to be worn in function and so this information would need to be passed to physiotherapists involved in their care.  Whether visits are domiciliary or not is an important point, especially in the later stages of MND. As we have a lengthy waiting list for community visit patients we ensure we have a separate spreadsheet for them- and where possible are MND team colleagues go out on our behalf for speed.
