Summary

The first person narrative is a transformative approach to observation, which seeks to help the observer explore the child’s perspective in a particular situation or a particular moment. It is a tool for reflection on opportunities for practice as opposed to an assessment of development or evidence of effectiveness. It can influence how you see learning situations and your role in them just as much as it helps you to explore what the child is experiencing. How you undertake these observations and use them will to a large part depend upon your own priorities and working situation.
