Activity 8.2 - Is it listening to the child? Is it sociocultural?

Click on the link at the bottom of this page and watch this interview with Sue and Margje in which they talk about the value of In-the-Picture to them as practitioners.

(Tip: You may it helpful to open the link in a new tab so that you can easily return to the main page. To do this hold down the Ctrl key while clicking on the link, or right-click on the link and select ‘Open in new tab’).

As you watch, consider the theory you have been reading about.

  • Which ideas from theory are evident in the way Sue and Margje talk about In-the-Picture? For example, how do their comments build upon ideas of listening to children?
  • Can you identify ideas which suggest a socio-cultural understanding of learning?
  • How does thinking about theory help you to reflect upon your own practice and how you might develop this further?

You can use your notebook to record your thoughts.
