Activity 4.2 - Thinking about sharing photographs

Consider the following set of notes. They are a first person narrative observation of a child sharing some photographs with a researcher. They offer the child’s perspective of the experience.

I’m looking at the pictures that the woman has got on the computer.  I’m looking very hard at me doing things. I don’t say anything when I’m looking at me, but when I see something I recognise I name the thing, and I name the person.  I like the ball, I like Daddy’s shoes. I turn to the woman and tell her that Daddy’s shoes were fun when she asks me. I’m not interested in the things I was doing with Daddy, but I’m interested in the things that I see in the pictures.

What questions might you ask about this sharing moment? What would you pick out to talk about? Spend a few minutes thinking and making notes about this in your notebook. When you have made some notes on your thoughts read the 'Comments on Activity 4.2' that follow. If you have a colleague who is doing the course at the same time as you or who has already completed it, you may also find it helpful to discuss your thoughts with them before reading the next sub-section.
