Activity 3.1 - Which objects would you select?

Return to the first person narrative that you undertook in Activity 2.1 when you chose a video clip of a child playing with their Portage Home Visitor. Read through the observation that you noted down and consider:

  • Which items do you think you would photograph?

  • In an everyday situation such as this, how would you choose to undertake the photographs?

  • What sort of equipment do you think you would use?

Record your ideas in your notebook.

You could also go back to the first-person narrative suggested in the second part of Activity 2.1, if you have had the opportunity to observe a child that you work with. Read through the observation that you noted down and consider:

  • Which items would you choose from this activity?

  • Would you envisage any difficulties in taking photographs in this situation?

  • How would you overcome these?

Record your ideas in your notebook.

Finally if you have a colleague who is completing the course at the same time as you or who has previously completed the course, then share your thoughts about the possible focus of the children's and compare your ideas about the issues of taking such photographs. Collaborating in this way will help you extend your understanding and develop a broader perspective on the potential of the In-the-Picture approach
