Ideas – themes and threads [Workshop activity 6]

Following themes and threads of ideas is a useful creativity trick. We often assume that all ideas have to be completely unique and novel. They don’t!

By following a theme a lot of similar but slightly different ideas can emerge and these, in turn can lead to other ideas.

·       Pick some aspect of an idea that has already been suggested (e.g. using the web to improve a business’ online presence)

·       Come up with (at least) 5 more ideas that start from or use that aspect (e.g. come up with 5 ways you could use the web to increase online presence)

·       Do this several times with different aspects and, usually, the aspect with lots of ideas coming off it is a good one…

·       Use a timer to keep things moving – e.g. 5 minutes
