7.6 Identity Positive Interdependence
Another type of positive interdependence is Identity Positive Interdependence. The idea involves building a common identity among group members. Sport teams, clubs, and many other kinds of groups, even gangs, attempt to build a shared identity among members using techniques such as songs, flags, colors, cheers, and special handshakes. Many teambuilding techniques try to foster a shared identity among group members.
With Identity Positive Interdependence, the hope is that the group will feel like a family and that group members will want to try hard to bring honor to their family. Also, if they are having difficulty in learning, students will not feel embarrassed about going to their group members, as well as the teacher, for help. Thus, Identity Positive Interdependence is one more way to encourage the feeling of all for one and one for all.
