3.5.5 Activity: Exploring CC Mixter
Study time: 15 minutes
So far, you’ve looked at how images and text-based resources can be adapted and remixed. Music can also be openly licensed, adapted and remixed. The community music site CC Mixter is a great place to explore Creative Commons-licensed remixes and samples that can be used freely (for non-commercial purposes) and remixed.
- Visit the music site CC Mixter (https://ccmixter.org/). Note that at the bottom of the page it says that the text and images on the site are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial 4.0 International License.
- Now, look at the Global Music Community section on the same page and note that most of the music available there is licensed under CC BY-NC 4.0. This means that you can use this music for editing, as a background for a podcast, or for other purposes. However, you cannot sell the work in which you use this music.
- Spend a little time exploring the site and listening to some of the music.
