Le polar, crime fiction, is
the most popular literary form in France. In this free course, you will discover the
origins and development of French crime fiction, along with its current status,
before reflecting on whether it is simply mass entertainment or, rather,
genuine literature of quality. You will discover some important authors and
work on extracts from some well-known crime novels. You will analyse the
language of le polar and explore the translation of French crime fiction
into other languages.

I thoroughly enjoyed this course. More please! (I would pay for a course as short as this, but wouldn't want to commit to a longer one). I liked the way that each section used the same material in different ways, enabling me to understand the material better as I revisited it. I nearly didn't do the course as I thought it said it was aimed at those at level C1 CEFR. I wouldn't have coped without the audio transcriptions - but I made myself listen 3 times before reading the transcription (I think it's better to hear new words first and then read them, because I think my pronunciation is then a bit better). I'm now waiting for my first polar en francais to turn up!
