What is participation?
‘Participation’ generally means getting involved in different parts of life — such as education, work, or community engagement.
In this course, participation means taking part in civic, political, and public life which empowers individuals to raise concerns and shape decisions. This can include voting, sharing opinions in public consultations, or working in the public sector.
Participation goes beyond simply living and working in a new country—it’s about having a voice, being part of the community, and having a say in the decisions that affect everyday life.
When migrants are encouraged and supported to get involved, it helps promote social inclusion and representation of diverse groups in decision making, and creates more cohesive and resilient communities.
As a support organisation, you can help migrants understand and access these participation opportunities.
