Contributing to public consultations

Public consultations are a way for governments and public bodies to gather views from individuals and communities on proposed changes to laws, policies and services. These might relate to housing, immigration rules, healthcare access, education, or local service provision—areas that often directly affect migrants.

Migrants are part of the community and bring valuable perspectives. Their voices can:

  • Help shape fairer and more inclusive policies
  • Improve public understanding of migrant needs and experiences
  • Strengthen democratic processes and civic integration

Consultations may take the form of:

  • Online surveys or questionnaires
  • Written feedback (emails, letters, online forms)
  • Public events, focus groups, or community meetings

Many are hosted on local council or government websites, making them widely accessible—but often only to those who are aware of them and confident using English or digital tools.
