Helping clients explore public sector careers

Goal: To help clients explore how their skills and interests might fit public sector roles.

Time required: 30 minutes

Activity:

1. Ask your migrant client to choose 3 things they enjoy doing, such as:

• Helping others
• Organising events
• Solving problems
• Working with children
• Speaking different languages

2. Now ask them to consider:

• Have you ever done anything like that – here or in your home country?
• Can you imagine doing this kind of work in a school, hospital or at your local council?

3. Wrap up:

• Share 1–2 public sector job titles that match their interests (e.g. healthcare assistant, housing officer, teaching assistant).
• Give a simple next step: visit a job site, attend a local job fair, or speak to someone working in the sector.
