Shellfish production and mineral by-products, especially calcium
In this unit, we look at the issue of waste shells from bivalve shellfish production. This for instance includes mussels, oysters, scallops, and clams.
The first section presentation introduces the issues and scale of the byproduct involved. It then focuses particularly on one of the main minerals present in bivalve shells, calcium, and how shells can be treated to make this available for other processes.
