How to vote?
On the day of the election, there are three ways you can vote:
1. Vote in person at a polling station
- Go to your polling station (the details will be in the polling card you will receive prior to the election and will usually be fairly close to where you live).
- You can only vote at the polling station to which you are allocated.
- Give your name and address.
- Bring photo ID (required in England, Wales, and some parts of Scotland). Accepted IDs include passport, driving licence, older person’s bus pass or voter authority certificate.
- You’ll get a ballot paper – mark your vote with an "X".
2. Vote by post
- You can ask to vote by post if you can't or don’t wish to go in person.
- Apply at this government website.
- Your ballot paper will be sent to you. Fill it in and return it by post before the deadline.
3. Vote by proxy
- You can ask someone you trust to vote for you if you are unable to vote. This is called a proxy vote.
- Apply at this government website.
- Your proxy vote can be done at your polling station or by post.
