Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are classified as essential fats because the human body cannot synthesize them de novo, meaning they must be obtained through diet. Among these, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are especially crucial, as they maintain cell membrane fluidity and permeability, support cognitive and cardiovascular function, and influence gene expression of cell membrane proteins. The physiological functions of omega HUFAs are extensive and well-documented.
