What are Broad Values
Broad values are overarching values that guide people in their lives, like health, wealth, harmony with nature, respect for tradition. They are important as general orientations, and influence what people find important more specifically, such as the importance of trees. For more background information, see the IPBES documents in the references.
For our purposes, the broad values are the first part of the tool that your panellists will encounter, as they come in the pre-panel survey. Participants do not need to receive a specific definition because an overview of broad values that are common and relevant to decisions about treescapes is provided to them. The list sent to panellists in the pre-course survey is on the next page.
