Ethics Approval and Consent

We recommend getting consent for both the panel and the pre-panel survey as part of the pre-panel survey. This means that the (very busy) team don’t need to spend time distributing paper consent forms on the day of the panel, and it further means people can’t forget to sign their consent form before they leave.

The Tool's ethical principles were discussed in the 'Running the tool' section, on the 'Ethical Requirements' page. Practically, the ethics and consent text we used is included below:

"We ask you to complete this survey in advance of the upcoming panel. The survey will take around 10-15 minutes to complete. Information you provide as part of this survey and the panel will be used to inform the next stages of our research and be written up for publication. The workshop will be audio recorded for the sole purpose of creating transcripts to support our analysis. All data collected will be published in anonymised form only. If at any stage you would like to withdraw from the study, you can freely do so, and you can also request us to withdraw your data (your personal contact information and/or individual data you contributed up to the point where it has been anonymised). Your data will be stored on secure servers managed by the project partners in line with General Data Protection Regulations, will only be accessible to the project team, and will not be shared with any third parties. At the end of the project [date], data will be archived, in anonymised form only, on the publicly available UK Data Service so that other researchers can access them. Personal contact information will then be deleted. For further information, please contact [project email address]."
