    • Welcome to Safeguarding, Economic Inclusion and Gender Equality and Social Inclusion(GESI)

Develop your understanding of safeguarding, economic inclusion and gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) and be able to use this knowledge to mainstream and incorporate safeguarding and inclusion within institutions.

This course is designed for trainers (ToTs) in Higher Education(HE) and TVET institutions. In this course, you will be introduced to principles of safeguarding, economic inclusion, gender equality and social inclusion, with a focus on women, youth and persons with disabilities in Kenya.

The Skills for Prosperity: Safeguarding, Economic Inclusion and Gender Equality & Social Inclusion course has been developed as a part of the Skills for Prosperity Kenya (SFPK) programme by Leonard Cheshire in collaboration with Kenya Ministry of Education - State Department for University Education and Research, and The Open University. This programme is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) with the overall aim of improving the quality, relevance, and equity of higher education (HE) and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Kenya.

      Review of the GESI course

      ELLY Awuor9 March 2023 3:00

I have been privileged to look at the content of the course and was able make the following observations

      1. The programme is well arranged with the content listed on the left panel and the the learners can view the content on the right panel

      2. The fonts and spacing are good therefore visible enough

      3. I also observed the voice attached at the lower part of the content. this was available in some though my network was poor and therefore may have not been able to download all.

      4. The quiz at the end of the programme enables the trainee to do self evaluation and later can print certificate at the comfort of their homes is encouraging

      4. Doing my review on behalf of the deaf did not encounter challenges and because I didn't go through all the content hence didn't come across any video of which incase was there, there is need for caption.

      5. I did see the option for producing a print out although didn't attempt to print. this option is very important in cases where one may not be able to be online fully

      6. My major challenges though were;
      - Navigating to the page is demanding and therefore should be as simple as possible. The course should displayed on the university main page over which prospective learners can get the guide for registration
      - The menus (safeguirding and inclusion) on the maroon ribbon doesn't refresh back when one happens to open either programme 1 or 2. In such a case the Safeguarding and inclusion option disappears. It is my opinion that the options be available even if one navigate to those other options which could be by mistake.
      - Captivating teaching aids should be included to make the learning be more interesting. Think of Videos, Case studies, role play to bring imagination during the study.

      Note:
      - Have gone through this programme during the trainings which were conducted by Leonard Chesire, it is my wish to be given a chance to do it to certification level even if it is through this platform

My observation is that the HI can easily acquire this training successfully

      Thank you
