1.4.9 Gathering evidence for advocacy and influencing messaging

Jigsaw puzzle set with an uncomplete piece marked as evidence

Once the partners and advocacy targets have been identified,  the next activity is to integrate evidence into the messaging. This will promote evidence-based advocacy.

Evidence-based advocacy increases the credibility and legitimacy of the goal(s) to be achieved. For example, when considering collecting evidence for advocacy efforts, consider if the evidence already exists or if new evidence needs to be collected. New evidence(data) collection must be inclusive and accessible as well as centred around the participation of persons with disabilities, and/or the advocacy target population.

Nonetheless, the evidence must highlight the problem, the solution, and how the solution directly solves the problem. It should also be presented in a way that is accessible and easy to understand.
