2.4.6 Self-Assessments vs. External Assessments

When conducting a GESI assessment, one can opt for self-assessment or to use external experts. Either option has its pros and cons.
Self-assessments Pros:
- Often less expensive
- Evaluator may understand more about the nuances of the organisation
- Organisations can build on routinely collected data
Self-assessments Cons:
- A high likelihood of introducing bias from being a current employee, due to personal relationships, etc
- The organisations may not have the GESI expertise needed to conduct an assessment
External Assessments Pros:
- More likely to be objective
- Benefitting from external GESI expertise
- May not be able to capture the full nuances of the organisation/workplace due to time, resources, etc
- Lack of integration of evaluator
