According to ILO, the challenge in GESI in the present day is an issue that requires intervention. Diversity continues to be experienced. For example, In Kenya, the gender employment gap, defined as the difference between male and female employment rates, is estimated at 4.6%.

There is little data on the employment rates of persons with disabilities in Kenya. Available evidence suggests that people with disabilities are more likely to experience disadvantage, exclusion and discrimination in the labour market than persons without disabilities (Institute of Development Studies, 2020). Similarly,  the youth (aged 15 – 34 years) who form 35% of the Kenyan population, have the highest unemployment rate of 67% (Federation of Kenya Employers) and thus form the largest unemployed demographic.
