1.1.6 The Role of Employers in Promoting Economic Inclusion

Previously, we have observed that there are many obstacles to economic inclusion at the level of the employer. Businesses and organizations are uniquely positioned to change their practices to contribute to inclusive economic growth in their communities. Companies, especially large and multinational corporations, are no longer expected to exist solely to make a profit. Under the Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Agenda, companies have the opportunity to contribute to a more inclusive economy that provides good jobs to communities.
Evidence shows that businesses of all sizes experience a variety of benefits in shifting to supporting economic inclusion. These include:- Stronger ties with the community;
- Increased employee and client satisfaction, and;
- Increased profit.
