According to the Kenyan Constitution of 2010, youth are defined as people aged between 18-34; a revision from the 2007 National Youth Policy which had previously categorised youth as those aged 15-30. However, the United Nations' definition of youth is 15-24 years, and the East African Community (EAC) defines youth as those between 15 and 35 years (Society for International Development).

Low-income youth in Kenya are characterised by limited access to training, employment opportunities and cash flow. By 2021, it was observed that 13.59% of youth in Kenya aged 15-24 were unemployed (Statista,2023).
